The Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is pleased to announce the winner of our Name the Ambulance Campaign— The Spirit of Burke — which was voted on by the BVFRD members at our general membership meeting in January. While our winner has elected to remain anonymous, the new ambulance, set to be purchased in 2020, will feature a plaque on the interior of the unit commemorating its new name. We are very proud of this name and all of the honor and responsibility that comes along with it. There is always meaning behind a name, and with a name like this we hope to represent all of the spirit, strength, and resilience that the Burke community carries within its core.
Although it was a difficult process narrowing down the submissions to the final vote, we were deeply inspired seeing all the creativity that we received with your suggestions. There was a lot of humor in names like Iva Gotyou or Wee-oo, and even some silly ones like Amby McAmbulance Face. There were epic names like Apollo, and even clever names like Edward the Medic Truck (EMT). There were dozens more that caught our eye and we truly appreciate all of the imaginative responses sent our way. This was such a fun process and it is entirely thanks to all of our friends and family in the Burke community.
This campaign also managed to highlight our first attempt at an online Facebook drive. With over $800 raised in the end, we were excited to see that this was a successful medium to reaching out to folks for help in keeping our station up and running. We want to thank you all for your donations and continued support, we sincerely appreciate it.
As the Spirit of Burke makes its way into our community in the upcoming year, we genuinely look forward to continuing to serve you all!
